LOUIS VUITTON plans to build 10 New York-style stalls - in a stand against counterfeiting. The stands will sell authentic Louis Vuitton products, Vogue UK reports.

"We always thought that counterfeit requires zero tolerance for several reasons," Yves Carcelle, chairman and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton, explains to WWD. "It's a grey economy that escapes all rules of normal labor and normal economic rules and taxations, so it's a bad thing for every state in the world. Secondly, it's bad for any kind of creativity, research and development, because if you don't protect intellectual property, why should people dedicate time and energy to create?"

Opposition political parties accused the president of compromising his office, and asked what the plastics-to-media magnate Vincent Bollore can expect in return for his generosity.

Lock of John Lennon's Hair Sells for $48,000

A lock of John Lennon's hair sold for $48,000 in an auction of Beatles' memorabilia collected by the band's hairdresser reports LA Times

The hair -- inside an autographed copy of Lennon's book "A Spaniard in the Works" -- sold to an unnamed telephone bidder.

Lennon gave the book and the lock of hair to Betty Glasow, the Fab Four's hairdresser during their heyday. He wrote in the book, "To Betty, Lots of Love and Hair, John Lennon xx."

Two Picasso works up for auction at Sotheby's

"Tete de femme (Dora Maar)" and "La Lampe" by Pablo Picasso are up for auction at Sotheby's.

"Tete de femme (Dora Maar)" is a 31.5-inch (80-cm) bronze bust made in 1941 that is estimated to sell for $20 million to $30 million.

"La Lampe" from 1931 features the likeness of his mistress, Marie-Therese Walter, and should bring in $25 million to $35 million, Sotheby's said.
