MT-01 Power Line Sound System

Pioneer has announced the MT-01, a new Sound System that transmits sound through household electricity lines and not conventional speaker wires – the MT-01 Power Line Sound System – will be released at the end of September.

he MT-01 allows you to plug up to six specially-designed Power Line Network Speakers into an electric socket in multiple rooms and hear music played via the Sound Station, plugged into a socket in another room. This means you can enjoy seamless, room-to-room audio throughout your home.

The household electric circuit acts as a sound conduit, ‘piping’ the music via the Sound Station from one electric socket to another, from one room to another. The Station can also be controlled by remote control via any of the large Network Speakers.

Whilst power line communication is not a new technology, we’ve applied it to the home audio environment where you can enjoy background music in multiple rooms, without having to add complex speaker cabling.

We’ve also given the system a stylish, unobtrusive look, so it can blend – even disappear – into your home interior, whatever the décor.

The standard MT-01 package will vary depending on the country you’re in, but at most will include a Sound Station, one large 2 x 25W Network Speaker, a small 5W Network Speaker and a key ring-sized remote control.

Both the large and small speakers will also be available separately, so you can build your Power Line Sound System according to their own household requirements.

The Sound Station has 5 inputs: two USB terminals (type A and B), one front audio input and two analogue inputs. Users can connect their MP3 player, iPod, portable USB/flash memory sticks, PC or even an existing audio system and hear the music in multiple rooms.

The system even enables multi-room playback from two different sources; music from a compatible USB device can be played in one room, whilst music from a different source can be played in another room. The smaller speaker also has a motion-sensor, automatically detecting when to start playing music in that particularSound System transmits audio through household power lines , Seen at Engadget.com
