    The Beautiful Mind

    POST A COMMENT

The Beautiful Mind is the first in a new series of fragrances from the team behind Escentric Molecules. Tired of mere celebrity fragrances, nose Geza Schoen wanted to celebrate women of achievement with a scent that appeals to head and heart. Intelligence and fantasy, as he says. He has used the richest floral absolutes, including the rare and expensive tiare from Tahiti, to evoke ideal memories of an equally ideal summer.

    Hans Wegner Wishbone

    POST A COMMENT

The Wishbone, the creation of Danish furniture designer Hans Wegner (1914–2007). Manufacturer Carl Hansen will launch 12 new colors.

Sixty years later, Carl Hansen still produces the Wishbone chair as Wegner intended—with traditional bent woods and woven paper seats— but without letting prices spiral out of control. “It cannot be cheaply produced,” Christian Skovhus, owner of Icons of Denmark, says. “If a copy exists, it’s been glued or laminated and has no longevity.”

Madame de Pompadour (née Poisson) – Cindy Sherman

    POST A COMMENT

In commemoration of Madame de Pompadour (née Poisson) – famous courtesan and mistress of King Louis XV of France – Cindy Sherman has cast herself in the role of Pompadour in this exquisite 21-piece tea set. Made from Limoges porcelain, after the original design commissioned by Pompadour in 1756, creative chameleon Sherman challenges the idea of identity and ownership, utilizing a complex photo-silkscreen process to replace the courtesan’s portrait with her own. Signed and numbered by the artist, the tea set is available in a range of colours: apple green, rose, royal blue, and yellow. Each colour has been produced in a limited edition of 75.

Vanderbilt Rose to be Sold at Borsheims

    POST A COMMENT

The Vanderbilt Rose will be offered by Siegelson for sale at the upcoming Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders Event.

Formerly in the collection of Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, the corsage ornament was purchased by Le Musée Louvre in 2008 for $11 million.

This historic jewel with royal provenance consists of 250 carats worth of diamonds.

Created in 1855, the Vanderbilt Rose’s original owner was the niece of Napoleon Bonaparte, Princess Mathilde Bonaparte. Known as a bright individual, Mathilde owned one of the most distinguished literary and artistic salons in Paris during the Second Empire. After her death in 1904, the Vanderbilt Rose was auctioned off and sold by Cartier to Cornelius Vanderbilt III. As the “Queen of New York Society,” the jewel became her signature adornment.

Estimate for the Vanderbilt Rose is available upon request.

    Zimmermann

    POST A COMMENT

Juergen Teller’s new photographic series, Zimmermann, documents the supermodel Raquel Zimmermann engaging in family events and interacting with Teller’s native environment in Bubenreuth, Southern Germany. Staying true to his snapshot aesthetic but managing to portray what he calls a ‘surreal fairytale’, Teller captures Zimmermann in a state of complete abandon, pictured lifelessly in the woods, or lying semi-nude on the family table, a sacrificial offering forming part of a Bavarian feast. A narrative akin to the gothic and dramatic style of a Grimm’s Fairy Tale, this story explores themes of suppressed youth and teenage longing.
