Audi R8

Audi is planning to break away from safe executive cars and launch a racing-inspired supercar reports Times UK

Called the R8 after the car Audi built for the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race, it will have a choice of engines, one supplied by Lamborghini, which is controlled by Audi.

The detuned version of the Gallardo’s 5 litre V10 will give the R8 about 450bhp. It is also expected to be available with a 420bhp V8 found in the RS 4.

The first models are expected to arrive in showrooms in spring 2007 with prices from about £70,000, putting it in the same bracket as the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
